About Us
Powder coating beyond standards
RAL5050 is an experimental powder coating studio based in Budapest,
founded by artist Gábor Kristóf and architect Ivett Pásztor in 2023.
The studio emerged from a shared interest in colour, materiality, industrial processes, and making. While powder coating is most commonly associated with industrial production, we see it as a medium with far broader creative potential.
Working at the intersection of art, design, architecture, and fabrication, we collaborate with artists, designers, architects, institutions, and private clients on projects ranging from one-off prototypes to small-batch production.
Our approach combines technical precision with curiosity and experimentation. Alongside standard powder coating services, we develop custom colours, layered surfaces, marbled finishes, and project-specific solutions that go beyond conventional industrial applications.
Located at Art Quarter Budapest (AQB), RAL5050 functions both as a workshop and as an ongoing research platform exploring the possibilities of powder coating as a contemporary material practice.
About Powder Coating
But what is powder coating?
Powder coating is a process used to coat metal products in industrial quality.
The technology allows dry powder paint to get electrostatically applied to a surface and then cured in an oven. During curing, the powder melts and forms a solid, continuous, durable finishing.
Originally developed for industrial manufacturing, powder coating is now widely used in architecture, furniture production, transportation, product design, and public space applications due to its durability and environmental advantages.
And we think there is much more in it!
